David E. Adler, MD earned his Bachelor of Arts at Oberlin College with a major in chemistry. He went on to study medicine at the State University of New York, Health Science Center at Brooklyn and graduated cum laude. He continued there to carry out his surgical internship and was inducted into the AOA society.

He was then admitted into the neurosurgical residency training program at the same institution and ultimately completed his neurosurgical training as well as a complex spine fellowship in 1996. He stayed at this institution as Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery, teaching residents and performing research. After three years working in academic neurosurgery he opted for a complete change of lifestyle and sought out a neurosurgical position in the Pacific Northwest. In 1999, he moved to Portland, Oregon. He now has a well established private practice which includes treating neurosurgical patients requiring complex spinal instrumentation for trauma, degenerative disease and cancer. A large portion of his practice includes performing neurosurgery for intracranial neoplasms, anterior venous malformations, trauma and cerebrovascular accidents.

Stephen P. Banco, MD

Stephen P. Banco, MD received his undergraduate degree from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. He completed his surgical internship at Pennsylvania Hospital, his Orthopaedic Surgery Residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and his Fellowship in Spinal Surgery at The New England Baptist Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. Dr. Banco has published original research articles in The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, Spine and Current Opinions in Orthopaedics. Dr. Banco is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, The North American Spine Society and the Pennsylvania and Berks County Medical Societies.

Candice Brody’s thorough knowledge of claims processing and billing operations is supported by over 13 years experience in the spine reimbursement field. A vital component of the Business Dynamics Limited team, she oversees the office operations department and coordinates with the management team to ensure the smooth and efficient progression of the day-to-day operations. She constantly monitors coding and reimbursement trends as well as claim processing changes to remain several steps ahead in the insurance game. She has spearheaded several different appeal discussions with the Medical Directors and Executives of many major insurance carriers. A Certified Professional Coder, and leading spine coder in all areas, Ms. Brody received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Health and Nutrition Sciences from Brooklyn College and went on to earn her Masters in Business Administration from Adelphi University in New York.

Mauro M. Cataletto, MD is Chief Executive Officer of CaseCoder™, the Medical Director of Business Dynamics, Chairman of the Board of Directors, for The Spine Council. He is a retired Orthopaedic Spine Surgeon in New York, Board Certified from the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and a Diplomate of the American Board of Forensic Examiners. He is a recipient of the National Leadership Award by the National Republican Congressional Committee, and was a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and the International College of Surgeons. In addition, he is a member of the North American Spine Society, the American College of Physician Executives, and the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
As the Medical Director of Business Dynamics, Dr. Cataletto’s role is of significant importance as he has been actively involved in discussions specific to denials, reimbursement and the continuous issues infringing upon the financial positions of Spine Surgeons. His participation in discussions with insurance carriers and medical directors has had a direct impact on the success of Business Dynamics Limited. A leader in education, his spine practice incorporated the many strategies often discussed and recommended to our clients providing comprehensive instructions that even the layman can follow. This information has proven to be priceless in providing the motivation for change in the spine community.

As the founder and CEO of Business Dynamics, a leading national spinal reimbursement company, she provides thorough reviews of the current billing and collection procedures used by surgeon and industry clients, and offers recommendations for improvement, thereby allowing her clients to maximize their revenue.

Barbara Cataletto also founded Business Dynamics Online© in 2005. This accreditation program is designed to ensure that the spine specialist’s billing office utilizes the most up to date and efficient methods of revenue collection. By developing a variety of courses, she is able to share the techniques implemented by the Business Dynamics Limited team with other professionals in the field.

Mrs. Cataletto received her MBA from Adelphi University in Garden City, New York. She is a Certified Professional Coder and nationally recognized lecturer educating other professionals in the spine industry and has authored many published feature articles related to the spine industry. She was the recipient of 2007 Trailblazer Award from the National Association of Women Business Owners and is an affiliate of the North American Spine Society, the Medical Group Managers Association, the Better Orthopedic Network Exchange, the National Association of Healthcare Consultants, Who’s Who of Women Executives, Who’s Who of Business Executives, and the National Association of Female Executives.

Aleksandar Curcin, M.D.

Aleksander Curcin, MD is Board Certified with the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery fellowship-trained in spine surgery. His passion for orthopaedics was ignited during his high school days, while working as an orthopaedic technician at Loma Linda University Hospital in California. Dr. Curcin completed his undergraduate studies at the University of California, at Riverside. He received his Executive MBA, from Loyola College of Maryland. He received his Doctorate of Medicine, from the University of California at Los Angeles School of Medicine. He completed his Orthopaedic Surgery Internship and Residency at Brown University School of Medicine, Rhode Island School of Medicine. He completed his Spine Surgery Fellowship at the University Of Maryland School Of Medicine. Dr. Curcin is a Diplomate of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Gordon D. Donald, MD is a fellowship trained Orthopaedic Spinal Surgeon in private practice. He has extensive experience in developing a specialty spine center and ambulatory care and ancillary facilities. Dr. Donald’s success is centered around providing very high quality spinal care in an out of network environment.

After completing his residency in orthopaedic surgery, with additional specialty training in sports medicine, Dr. Donald completed his spinal surgical fellowship at the St. Luke’s Spine Center in Cleveland and is Board Certified in both orthopaedic surgery and spinal surgery. He is a member of multiple spinal and orthopaedic societies and has particular interests in reconstructive spinal surgery including scoliosis, spinal deformity, and spinal tumors as well as degenerative disorders and herniated discs. Dr. Donald is especially skilled in minimally invasive spinal surgery including laparoscopic and thorascopic assisted approaches. In addition to his clinical responsibilities of providing expert spinal care to patients, Dr. Donald is very involved in spinal surgical research and the development of new instruments, devices, and techniques to advance the field of spinal surgery. He has authored multiple papers and has lectured globally teaching others new techniques in spinal surgery.

Richard D. Guyer, M.D.

Richard Guyer, M.D. is the Co-founder of the Texas Back Institute and Director of their Spine Fellowship Program. Dr. Guyer earned his Medical Degree from the University Of Pennsylvania School Of Medicine. He completed his internship at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, TX and continued with his residency program in Orthopedic Surgery at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Guyer then completed two spine fellowships in Ohio and California. Dr. Guyer holds many honors including founder of the Texas Back Institute Research Foundation and Chairman of the Board for the program. Dr. Guyer received the Best Doctor Award from D Magazine, is past president of the North American Spine Society and winner of the Volvo Award for Low Back Pain Research.

Shailen Jalali, M.D.

Shailen Jalali, MD is a Board Certified Anesthesiologist and Interventional Pain Specialist practicing in the greater Philadelphia area. He received his Bachelors of Science degree from Pennsylvania State University. He received his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. He completed his premedical and medical degree as part of a 5 year combined program. After graduating from medical school, he completed 2 years of a Surgery residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. He then completed a Surgery Research Fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania (Harrison Department of Surgical Research). After completing the fellowship, he changed specialties, completing an Anesthesiology residency in 1991 at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. Since then, he has been a practicing Anesthesiologist and Interventional Pain Specialist. He has been a full-time Pain Specialist since 1996. He has been on the academic faculty of the Jefferson Medical College and Drexel University School of Medicine in the Department of Anesthesiology.

Currently, he is the Associate Medical Director of the Lankenau Pain Center located in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania. He also has a practice in southern New Jersey. He is a member of multiple spine and pain organizations including the North American Spine Society, North American Neuromodulation Society, American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, International Spinal Intervention Society, American Academy of Pain Medicine, and the International Association for the Study of Pain. He has lectured extensively both locally and nationally on a variety of pain treatment modalities, particularly the non-surgical interventional treatment of spinal pain disorders. He has particular clinical and research interest in the use of implantable neuromodulation devices in the treatment of chronic pain disorders.

George Miz, MD is Board Certified with the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. Dr. Miz completed a fellowship in scoliosis and spinal surgery at New York University and Bellevue Hospital in 1985. His practice focuses on helping patients who have degenerative spinal conditions - which often means applying breakthrough techniques. For example, Dr. Miz was one of the first surgeons in the area to enroll in clinical trials that now allow him to perform artificial disc replacement, an innovative treatment for degenerative disc disease. He is also experienced in treating herniated discs, spine deformities, sciatica, trauma, tumors, and other spinal conditions--all with a conservative approach that minimizes risk. Taking full advantage of minimally invasive techniques, Dr. Miz works to facilitate faster recoveries while providing each patient with the comprehensive care they deserve.

Kam Momi, MD is a Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon, fellowship-trained in spine surgery. At Coastal Spine, Dr. Momi focuses 100 percent in the care of back and neck pain. Dr. Momi completed a fellowship in spine surgery at the New England Baptist Hospital in Boston. Dr. Momi received his Bachelor of Science from Pennsylvania State University, where he earned a place on the dean’s list every semester. Dr. Momi proceeded to earn his medical degree at Thomas Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. He completed an internship in surgery at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City and a residency in orthopedics at New Jersey Medical School. Dr. Momi is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the North American Spine Society. He has given lectures at New Jersey Medical School, the New Jersey State Orthopaedic Association’s Annual Meeting, New Jersey Orthopaedic Hospital and Mayo Clinic.

Barton Sachs, MD is a Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon, Board Certified Spine Surgeon and Board Certified Physician Executive. Dr. Sachs completed an extended Fellowship-Training in spine surgery at the University of Minnesota & Twin Cities Spine Center. He is Adjunct Professor of Engineering at Clemson University and Adjunct Professor of Surgery & Rehabilitation at Albany Medical College. He received his BA from Harvard University (cum laude-Honors) and received his medical degree from S.U.N.Y. Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, New York. He received his MBA from Rensselar Polytechnic Institute. He is a member of several spine organizations, the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, American Board of Spine Surgery, North American Spine Society, Scoliosis Research Society, Cervical Spine Research Society, Spinal Arthroplasty Society and American College of Surgeons. Dr. Sachs has published several scientific articles in referenced peer reviewed journals, authored ten book chapters, other monographs and many published abstracts.

Kellye Sherbet

Kellye Sherbet is the Vice President of Billing Services for Health Care Strategies (HCS). A graduate of University of North Texas and a certified medical coder, Kellye has more than 20 years in the health care industry. Earlier in her career she served as the billing manager for Texas Back Institute and director of reimbursement for Care Select Group. Kellye joined Health Care Strategies in 1997 to develop and manage the billing services. She directly supervises all account managers, meets with clients to review collections and oversees continuing education and training of HCS staff. Health Care Strategies provides services to over 30 spine specialists located throughout the United States.
